Spring – Bring it on!
After a long hard winter we really want to believe that spring is in the air. Although we hardy Canadians make the best of the winter by embracing any weather condition that comes our way, when we know spring is looming we get itchy feet for warmer climes beyond our own borders until ours thaw out. But for those of us that stay put while we await the thaw, we can look forward to the clocks “springing” forward to help force the issue at least from a light point of view. Daylight saving time starts on the second Sunday in March (March 9) but with the change comes problems. Wishing for spring is helped along by the clocks going forward by one hour which means losing one hour sleep on the Saturday/Sunday that it occurs on. But be careful what you wish for because the Monday after the change has statistically seen a rise in accidents. As usual the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) has some tips on how to survive the switch to daylight saving time. So, embrace spring but stay safe to enjoy the best Canada has to offer in the new season!
