WHMIS 2015 and GHS
The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) is changing. With the incorporating of the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) being introduced, Canadians will need to get up to speed with the changes. Although these new changes have been a long time coming to North America, they have been in effect for some time elsewhere in the world. Just how the changes will affect the WHMIS legalisation is still being worked out. Over the winter, there were public consultations held by the Ministry of Labour. The goal is to begin implementing the changes in June 2015 and have a long transition period which would end in 2017. For more information, see the new website which has been designed to help with the adjustment.
